The Birds And The Seeds

Do you remember a couple of weeks back when the Terror's and I planted some assorted pepper seeds and added some items to our garden to encourage the birds to visit..? Well I'm pleased to report that both have worked brilliantly!

At the beginning of the week we had the first signs of growth from our pepper seeds and by Friday a few tiny seedlings had appeared; Terror 1 was very excited to see them growing and is very proud that the seeds she had planted were already starting to grow. We still haven't gotten around to planting our spring onions and garlic, hopefully we'll find some time over the Easter Holiday's to plant them.

Above is our seeds on Tuesday and below on Friday...growing quickly!

On the same day that we planted our seeds we also added some things to our garden to encourage the birds to visit. There are a lot of trees and bushes surrounding our little patch of green and whilst we used to see a lot of birds, the majority were flying over into our neighbour's garden's. Our bird feeders have worked! We've seen so many birds in our garden over the last week or so and the children are thrilled! They've enjoyed standing at the kitchen windows and watching them.

The birds seem to be enjoying the fat balls that we bought and have devoured 4 of them within two weeks. Our visitors seem to be very happy with the position of our feeder too; it is placed just under a tree and they are able to hop up and down from the tree to the feeder as much as they like.

The increase of birds into our garden also attracted interest from, what we think was, a Sparrowhawk!

  6. Great bird pics, unfortunately our very agile cat appears to have scared off our little feathered friends this year. Good luck with the seeds, we'll have to compare note over the coming months #CountryKids
